Suckers and Losers Day

From Arlington Cemetery, Donald J.  Trump, and all his Republican supporters, wish you a “Happy Suckers and Losers Day.” Hypocritically, they besmirch the hundreds of thousands of graves of servicemen and women who gave “the last full measure of devotion.” Silently they lie in cemeteries at Gettysburg and Antietam to Normandy, France, Ardennes, Belgium, Aise-Marne, Belleau France (where Trump, as he complained about the rain, noted 1800 Marines there were “Losers,”) Sicily-Rome, Italy, Tunis, Tunisia, Corozal, Panama, Saipan, Mariana Islands, Lorraine, Moselle France, Okinawa, Japan, Luxembourg, and many other hallowed grounds here and abroad.  And don’t forget the 78,985 servicemen still Missing in Action and those Lost or Buried at Sea.

Remember when, as they stood at the grave of LT Robert Michael Kelly, killed in combat in Afghanistan and buried at Arlington, then-President Donald Trump asked Secretary of Homeland Security (and later White House Chief of Staff), General John Kelly, “What was in it for them?” His disdain for Gold Star families still reverberate-think of Captain Humayum Khan, killed in Iraq and how Trump attacked his father Khizr Khan and the captain’s grieving mother.

There are more of us they believe to be suckers and losers. Included as suckers and losers are the over 1,800,000 of us who since 1932 have been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Amazingly, a few of those recipients are Republican Members of Congress who obviously don’t mind being denigrated by Trump.

Especially on Memorial Day, it is time for all veterans who support Trump, to do some soul-searching and values assessment.
